We are starting to get things in a routine this week! Most of our routines and procedures have been established. Your student will have a homework packet on Monday and will need to have it turned in by Friday. Students are getting their AR reading levels on Monday so they will be bringing home an AR book to read every night. I recommend making sure your 2nd grader is reading about 10-15 minutes a night. As the year progresses, we will up the reading minutes expected. I am sending home log in information sheets to sign up your child for AR Home Connect, ST Math, and Reading Eggs. These are the computer programs that we will be using this school year.
What We are Learning
Reading- We are learning about Daily Five procedures to get ready for Guided Reading Groups. We are working on practicing reading to ourselves and reading with a partner. We are also adding reading strategies to our CAFE menu board.
Spelling- We had our first spelling test Friday. I was really proud of how well they did! Our Unit 2 test will be on Friday, Sept. 4th.
Math- We finished Module 1 on Addition and Subtraction strategies. We will continue to learn about this all year. Our next Module focuses on Measuring.
Social Studies- We are learning about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and we are also learning about Communities. We learned about citizens and their rights and responsibilities.
