Notes
Parent teacher conference forms went home this week and I am currently scheduling times. If you haven’t yet turned in your form, please return it to me ASAP. I want to meet with every student’s family in the first round of conferences. There are 3 days to choose from: Oct. 22nd , Oct. 27th (both evenings) and Oct. 28th (day time slots).
*Don’t forget you can get spelling lists on our classroom website!
*Mark your calendars! McTeacher’s Night is coming up on Oct. 13th.
What We Are Learning
Reading and Writing- We are reading seasonal poetry. We will be starting haiku poetry this upcoming week.
Spelling- We will have the Unit 6 test on Friday.
Math- We are focusing on place value concepts. We are applying place value with money and using $1, $10, and $100 bills to practice counting on.
Science- This week we learned about evaporation. We did an experiment where we made a puddle outside and checked on it periodically throughout the day. We recorded what the puddle looked like each time we checked on it. It got smaller every time and the students concluded that the water was evaporating and turning into water vapor. We also did an experiment with wet sponges placed around the room. One was in front of a fan to simulate wind, one was in front of a heater to simulate the sun, and one was just sitting out with nothing on it. We recorded how long it took for the sponges to dry. The sponge in front of the heater dried first. We concluded that heat causes evaporation to happen more quickly.
