Notes
*This is going to be a busy week at Toll Gate Elementary. On Tuesday, we will have a group of teachers visiting our school to learn about our Leader in Me program. The students are going to be involved with the teachers throughout the day. They will be greeting the teachers, serving them lunch, sharing about their leadership notebooks and leadership teams, and some may even be performing! It’s going to be a great way to showcase all that we have done and show off how AWESOME our students are!
*Wednesday will also be a special day in our classroom. We have the privilege of welcoming a veteran into our classroom to read a book to the students. The kids will be writing thank you notes that they will share with him when he comes. We also have the veteran’s day lunch that day. We are encouraging your child to wear red, white, and blue on this day.
What We are Learning
Reading and Writing- We read about John Henry this week. We have talked about the characteristics of a tall tale and we discussed how the people who told tall tales used exaggeration. We read the story and also watched a tall tales video. The kids have been very interested in learning about the different characters! The pop bottle home project went home on Friday. These are due Nov. 16th. I am so excited to see how they turn out!
Spelling- Unit 10 test is on Monday. Unit 11 test is on Friday.
Math- We have been practicing adding two and three digit numbers. We are putting them on a place value chart so that students understand how we have to regoup (or “lasso”) groups of ten to the next place value. Students have also been practicing how to add the algorithm way, with is the old school way that we learned. J It is also sometimes called vertical form. We will continue to practice this skill and will be moving on to subtraction with two and three digits with regrouping.
